Quick facts: This power station has the tallest stack in Malaysia - 197m - which is also the first triple-flue stack built in the country. Civil construction features include 250,000 cubic m of concrete, 30,000t of structural steel, 25,000t of steel reinforcement, a 1.5km offshore cooling intake, and a 100m long offshore outfall. Alstom also supplied a seawater FGD system

Tanjung Bin Power Station

Quick facts: This is the first coal-fired IPP in Malaysia. Construction began 12 Aug 2003 and Unit-1 went commercial on 28 Sep 2006, about a month behind schedule. Unit-2 went commercial on 28 Feb 2007. Malakoff Berhad holds 90% of Tanjung Bin Power, with 10% owned by Employee Provident Fund. The site is at the mouth of the Sungai Pulai River opposite Tanjung Pelepas. The plant PPA with TNN was signed in Jul 2002 and the plant also has a coal supply and transportation agreement with TNB Fuel Services. The power station is connected to the grid by a 53km, 500kV, transmission line to Bukit Batu and a 25km, 275kV line to Tg Kupang substation. The stack is 200m. Tanjung Bin cost RM7.8bn.
